The new gengo era for the reign of the new monarch Naruhito or emperor in Japan will be called Reiwa 令 和.

It is the first time in Japanese history that the ideogram or kanji Rei 令 is used in a name for the Gengo era. This name also includes the meaning of the plum blossom or Ume 梅.
